A political identity crisis is sweeping America. Years ago, knowing which political party you belonged in was fairly simple. For women it was as easy as just knowing what you did with your undergarments. If you wore them, you were a Republican. If you used them for kindling, you were a Democrat.
Both of the two major parties could claim their “base” by mere race or the size of their bank accounts, but not anymore. What happened?
POWER!
As a dear friend of mine says, “Our founding fathers never intended for Congress to have a retirement plan!”
The people of America have been sold a pack of lies from elitists in self-preservation mode who desperately need a two-party system in order to keep their jobs; hence the voters are stuck choosing the lesser of two evils. This is a recipe for disaster, one of the most troublesome parts of the equation is that the values of the voters have not changed; it is the political party leader who have changed.
One example is the African-American community (that’s the black community for those of you in Rio Linda). The Democrats are not the least bit interested in solving any of their problems. Instead, the Liberals actually embrace and support the very policies that compound the struggles they face. Liberals insist that a hetero-sexual, two-parent family being the best environment for raising children is just a bunch of moral hogwash spread by homo-phobic, anti-feminine, racist Christians. But the black community is quickly finding out that the “freedom” offered by the Liberals is more like a prison that robs their children of a secure and successful future, than it is a utopia free from pit falls and consequences. I won’t even touch on the number of black babies that have never been given the chance to take their first breath.
Another example is the Evangelical Christians that are smacked around like a sand bag in the local boxing gym. As an Evangelical, I can assure you that neither the Republican Party, nor the Democrat Party has a CLUE as to what to do with us. Honestly, most Evangelicals are motivated to vote Republican over their pro-life beliefs. The Democrats basically “force” us into the Republican camp. But this is not the only issue that leads us to into the GOP tent. Evangelical Christians don’t agree with most anything the Liberals embrace, let alone the unadulterated hatred and disdain the Democrat Party shows towards our faith. We also actually believe in the ideals that the Republicans sold us in 1994 with their “Contract.” But we are quickly realizing that the elected Republican representatives know this and hence ignore us because the alternative- weather it be to not vote or vote third party- puts the Democrats in power. Ross Perot taught our country all about this mistake.
It gets even more interesting. Last weekend I was watching a news program where a guest was being interviewed and made this statement. “The Libertarian Republicans resent the Evangelical Christians for taking over the Republican Party.” That’s odd. Libertarian Republicans? I thought the Libertarians had their own party? I do believe this gentleman is a wee bit confused. Most Libertarians I know vote Republican due to fiscal issues (that is “money” issues for those of you in Rio Linda), but hardly consider themselves Republicans. In fact, many of them seem to vote Republican because the alternative is…….well, the Dems in power.
Now let’s not forget about the Constitution Party. This past week I read a post via the internet by an attorney who announced his emergence into the Republican world. He was quickly welcomed by someone congratulating him and them offering the newcomer his spot as he was headed to the Constitution Party. Other Republicans promptly proceeded to bash him for putting the Libs in control. Interestingly enough, the fellow announced he would still vote Republican, but didn’t feel like he belonged in the Republican Party. Another person made a rather astute observation that there most likely are more Republicans in the Constitution Party than there are in the Republican Party.
Do we see the march here?
It seems to me that most Americans are truly conservative at heart. Not on all issues, but more in a general sense. What I submit to you is this. Once elected, our representatives always move left. They never move right. The difference between right and left, in general, is small government vs. big government. I do realize that it is not this simplistic and there are many other issues at hand that play a part. But generally speaking, if you take a step back, you can see the trend. Once you are one of the guys in the government, and in power; big government having more power doesn’t seem quite so bad as you thought. So as the people in power march left, the people keep jumping to the next ship to the right. I will be writing another piece soon that will cover more on this topic, but this article is already lengthy enough. All I can say, as an Evangelical Christian, is- “Dear Lord help me if I ever end up a Federalist!”
